Two women committed suicide in the city in separate incidents, allegedly owing to personal problems.

A 30-year-old woman committed suicide by hanging at her residence in Tavarekere after she discovered that her boyfriend had got married to another woman. The police said she might have committed suicide two days ago, as the body was highly decomposed. The deceased, Savitha Rani, had worked as a choreographer in Tamil films in Chennai and had recently joined a garment factory here.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Rani was a divorcee. She had married Shashi Kumar 13 years ago and the couple got divorced five years ago. After that, she moved to her relative’s house in Chennai along with her two children.

She was working there as assistant choreographer for Tamil films, apart from teaching dance. She came in contact with Deepak in Chennai and fell in love with him and they started staying together. Three months ago, Rani left her children in Chennai and moved to Bangalore with Deepak. The couple shifted to the current Tavarekere house a month ago. She had joined a garment factory on January 9.

However, a week ago Deepak got married to another woman and moved away. Deepak found something amiss when he did not get any calls from her for two days and asked Rani’s brother to check. He reached her house and opened the door and found his sister had committed suicide.

He informed the police, who rushed to the spot and shifted the body to Victoria Hospital for postmortem, which will be held on Sunday.

Rani’s father Chandrashekhar has filed a complaint with the police, stating that Deepak was behind his daughter’s suicide. The police have registered the case and are investigating.
