A 40-year-old man died and three got injured in an explosion that took place in a scrap shop in Hulimavu on Saturday morning.

Deputy commissioner of police (south-east), PS Harsha, said an unidentified man went to the scrap shop at 11am on Saturday to sell detonator. Shopowner Balakrishna asked him to separate copper from the detonators. He took hammer and started separating copper and that was when the detonator exploded.

The shop was completely damaged and the shopowner’s wife Selvi, 50, son Saravana, 25, and neighbour’s son Suresh, 15, were injured. They were immediately taken to Victoria Hospital .
The customer who had brought the detonators died on the way.

Selvi was critically injured and is under medical observation.
Hulimavu police have shifted the deceased’s body to Victoria Hospital ‘s mortuary; postmortem would be conducted after the person’s identity is established. A team of forensic science lab collected samples from the scrap shop to determine the exact reason of the blast.
