A few days after filmmaker of Power of Patidar wrote to the Prime Minister seeking his intervention over Censor Board’s rejection to the film’s release, director of Gujarati movie Salagto Saval Anamat has followed suit.

In his letter to Narendra Modi on July 8, director Rajesh Gohil stated, “Under the banner of Vyas Film Production (VFP), we made Salagto Saval Anamat at an expanse of over Rs 50 lakh. I have written and directed the film to convey the message on the ongoing reservation stir in Gujarat by the Patidar community. However, the Censor Board has not approved its release.”

The film was slated for release on June 14, 2016. Gohil wrote, “We have incurred losses of over Rs 50 lakh. I am under pressure from those who financed the film for the recovery of losses. I was recently even assaulted by some persons.”

Saying that he is being pressurised for then early release of the film, Gohil requested the PM, “Either you or your representative should watch the film and try to get a censor clearance. It does not have any dialogue or violent scene which can hurt the sentiments of any community.”

A copy of the letter which was also sent to Pahlaj Nihalani, chairman, Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), stated, “Though it is based on the agitation carried out by the Patidars in Gujarat from 2015, it is not based on the life of PAAS convenor Hardik Patel.”

Gohil said though he had made several representations for the release of the film, he was told that it violated the guidelines of the Cinematographic Act, 1992.

The director of the Gujarati movies warned in the letter that if the film is not provided a censor clearance, the responsibility of mental and physical turmoil caused to him and his family would lie with the Censor Board authorities. DNA’s mail to the censor board in this regard remain unanswered till the time of going to Press.

It is to be noted that Deepak Soni, filmmaker of ‘Power of Patidar’ had written to the PM on July 5 saying they have incurred huge losses due to non-release of the film which portrays the reservation stir by Patidar community.
