Holi 2021 is just two weeks away and people across the country are gearing to celebrate the festival of colours. Last year the mood for Holi was dampened by COVID-19 as the virus had just begun to spread. This year, however, people are eagerly waiting to celebrate Holi with their loved ones, albeit keeping in mind the COVID-19 safety protocols.

Although Holi is a fun-filled festival, what comes post the celebrations is often deemed the toughest. Yes, we are talking about getting the Holi colours off your skin. People play with chemical colours and greases which can be problematic for the skin. But worry not, as these simple tips will help you keep your skin safe from colours

1. Oil your Hair

Oiling your hair is extremely important as it greases your hair, making it easy to wash away the colours with shampoo. Not oiling your hair can lead to the colours getting absorbed in your scalp and cause dryness of hair. So don't forget to oil your hair before the celebrations start.

2. Apply sunscreen

Applying sunscreen on your face and skin is essential everyday. However, on the day of Holi, it should be the number one rule as you'll be spending most of your time outdoors, under the sun which can lead to tanning. Sometimes the combination of chemical colours on the skin and spending time under the sun can also lead to sunburn. So don't forget to apply a high SPF and waterproof sunscreen on your face and exposed skin areas.

3. Rub petroleum jelly

Petroleum jelly is the oldest hack and remedy for skin related problems. Before stepping out to play Holi, rub some petroleum jelly on your eyelids, lips, ears, hairline and between nail cuticles as it becomes easier to wash the colours off them later.

4. Rub ice cubes on your face

This is a lesser-known tip. Rubbing an ice cube on the face helps to minimise and close open pores, thus preventing the absorption of colours in your skin. Cleanse your face with a face wash and then rub the ice cubes. Follow this by sunscreen and moisturiser application.

5. Apply nail paint

Colours can get stuck between long nails which not only looks bad but can also be harmful. So don't forget to trim your nails and apply nail paint on them before you enjoy the festivities.

6. Moisturise your skin

Put moisturiser or oil on your arms, legs and other exposed areas as it will keep the skin hydrated and you will be able to get rid of the colours without much effort later on.

7. Wear Cotton clothes

Most people decide to wear old clothes on Holi but avoid wearing synthetic clothes as they can trap the colours and chemicals can cause skin dryness and itchiness. Instead, opt for breathable fabrics like cotton clothes.
