The prices of vegetables have increased in Punjab’s Ludhiana due to monsoon rains and impact of COVID-19 pandemic. Due to continuous downpour in the city and COVID-19 outbreak, the prices of vegetables are touching sky. Locals are facing problems as the essential commodities are getting sold at higher prices in the market. Social distancing norms were also flouted in the vegetable market. While speaking to ANI, a wholesaler, Manmohan Singh Bittu said, “Business was slow earlier so farmers didn't grow many crops at their farms. Now crops are getting damaged due to rain.” “Due to rain, less produce is coming to market. Business was slow anyway, so many didn't cultivate much at their farms. The price is now twice-thrice of earlier price. Peas are being sold at Rs 80-90 per kg and chillies at Rs 20 per kg. All vegetables are expensive,” he added.
