Fresh spells of heavy rain accompanied by thunder lashed Delhi, the national capital region (NCR) and Hyderabad on Wednesday, bringing normal activities in these areas to a standstill.

Heavy rain also disrupted traffic at Rajiv Chowk in Gurugram, Haryana. The fresh downpour also threw traffic out of gear in several parts of Delhi.

United States Secretary of State John Kerry's motorcade to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), where he delivered an address to students, was also delayed due to waterlogging. He reached the venue an hour late.

Kerry's scheduled visits to the Sisganj Gurudwara, Jama Masjid and the Gauri Shankar Temple have been cancelled due to the inclement weather.

Owing to a cyclonic circulation over the Andhra coast, Hyderabad received a considerable amount of rainfall over the past 24 hours, reported Skymet Weather. Traffic has been disrupted with flooding of streets.

The Hindu reported that the rain has resulted in the loss of seven lives in Hyderabad.

Here are some photographs from the ground.
