Assembly Election Results 2018 Live: Mizoram CM loses his own seats - Here is how other chief ministers are faring

Counting of votes for Assembly elections in five states - Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram and Telangana - began at 8 am on Tuesday to decide the fate of over 8,500 candidates in 678 assembly seats. Trends after over 3 hours of voting show that Congress will be back in power in Chhattisgarh while it is likely to lose in Mizoram. 

The results in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan were too close to call with both the BJP and the Congress in a neck an neck fight with smaller players also sealing substantial number of seats. 

The five-state polls have been billed as semi-finals before the 2019 national polls, with the Congress asserting that the mandate from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram on Tuesday would send a "clear message" against the Narendra Modi government at the Centre.

While it is important for the sitting chief ministers to retain power, a win on their own seat is equally crucial.

Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla lost from both constituencies he was contesting from. He was defeated by MNF's TJ Lalnuntluanga by 1049 votes in Champhai South. While Thanhawla polled 4163 cotes, Lalnuntluanga received 5,212 votes. 

Thanhawla (5071) lost to ZPM's chief ministerial candidate Lalduhoma (5481 votes) in Serchhip.
