Do you think Varun Gandhi's comments will affect the BJP's poll prospects?

Varun Gandhi stirred a hornet's nest recently at a recent rally when he made communal remarks against Muslims. Immediately after that he was issued a notice by the Election Commision and an FIR was filed against him.

On March 6, he said at the Dalchand meeting: "Agar kissi galat tatv ke aadmi ne, kisi Hindu pe haath uthaya ya hinduon ke upar yeh samajh key ki yeh kamzor hain, unke peeche koi nahi hai... hinduon ke upar haath uthaya, mein geeta ki kasam khake kehta hoon ki mein uss haath ko kaat daaloonga. (If somebody lifts a hand against Hindus, or thinks they are weak, there is nobody behind them, then I swear on the (Bhagvad) Gita that I will cut off that hand)." 

Varun Gandhi has refuted the charges and said that the CD had been doctored and has refused to apologise, he also denied that he had spoken against Muslims and claimed that he was being called communal as he spoke for Hindus.

While the BJP has distanced itself from the controversy, Varun has found support from the Shiv Sena.
