Pakistan vs Afghanistan (PAK vs AFG): Pakistan beat Afghanistan by 3 wickets in a thriller that went down to the last over to keep their hopes alive in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 on Saturday.

Pakistan needed 228 in their 50 overs against Afghanistan to keep their World Cup 2019 hopes alive. Afghanistan posted 227 for 9 in their 50 overs after winning the toss and electing to bat first.  Pakistan had a terrible start when Mujeeb Ur Rahman trapped Fakhar Zaman (0) leg-before-wicket in the very first over.

Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam then added 71 runs for the second wicket to steady the Pakistan innings. However, Imam (36) was stumped charging Mohammad Nabi to give Afghanistan an opening to come back in the match. Nabi then bowled Babar Azam (45) in his next over to make it 81 for 3 in 17.2 overs.

Haris Sohail and Mohammad Hafeez added 40 runs for the fourth wicket before Hafeez fell to Mujeeb Ur Rahman for 19.  In-form Sohail (27) was dismissed by Rashid Khan in the 35th over to reduce Pakistan to 142/5, with the team still requiring 86 runs for the win.

Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed (18) also failed to leave a mark as he was run-out in the 39th over. Shadab Khan joined Imad Wasim. Gulbadin Naib gave away 18 runs in the 46th over to give Pakistan an upper hand.

Afghanistan clawed their back as Shadab (11) was run out with the team still requiring 22 runs for the win. However, Imad Wasim and Wahab Riaz ensured Pakistan's victory by three wickets with two balls to spare. Wasim and Wahab remained unbeaten on 49 and 15 respectively.

Pakistan vs Afghanistan: Full Scorecard

Earlier, Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Afridi claimed four wickets to restrict Afghanistan to a modest total. Afghanistan stumbled early on as they lost captain Gulbadin Naib and Hashmatullah Shahidi in back-to-back deliveries to Afridi, who produced a blistering opening spell with the new ball.

Former skipper Asghar Afghan and Ikram Alikhil built a 64-run stand before Afghan was cleaned up by leg-spinner Shadab Khan for 42. Wicketkeeper-batsman Alikhil (24) holed out to left-arm spinner Imad Wasim but Najibullah Zadran's scored a patient 54-ball 42 to take the Afghans past the 200-mark. Afridi, playing only his 18th ODI at the age of 19, returned to remove Zadran and Rashid Khan to finish as pick of the Pakistan bowlers with 4-47.
