After 32 years, the last bastion of Australian cricket finally crumbled. The Gabba, forever considered to be the ultimate sentinel of Australian cricket, has been finally breached as Ajinkya Rahane's Indian cricket team scripted history by winning the final Test at the Gabba by three wickets. Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant smashed fifties as Australia suffered a cataclysmic defeat which has shattered their aura even at home.

For India, this will be considered their greatest-ever Test series win. With no Virat Kohli, no Ravichandran Ashwin, no Jasprit Bumrah, no Mohammed Shami and Hanuma Vihari, India's wafer-thin bowling line-up still outsmarted the Australians in their own home den. Shubman Gill was at his youthful best, Cheteshwar Pujara continued to grind the Australian team down but Rishabh Pant showed that he had finally reached the pinnacle when it came to maturity and impact. His unbeaten knock was a symbol that the talent and depth in the Indian cricket team were immense and it was interesting time for India. For Australia, it is a long time of contemplation.

Shubman Gill was at his brilliant best and he showed his calmness despite the fall of Rohit Sharma early on the final day. Shubman Gill took a full toll on Mitchell Starc by blasting him for six and two fours. Cheteshwar Pujara gave him solid support as India stayed on course for something historic. Shubman Gill was confidence personified but on 91, he missed a chance of scoring a maiden century as he fell for 91 to Nathan Lyon. (Image credit: BCCI Twitter handle)

Cheteshwar Pujara took plenty of blows on his body and was hit twice on the helmet. The physio of the Indian cricket team already had a huge work on his hands. He was on the field for most of the time. Such has been his management and the number of injuries that many people on social media said he should be awarded the Man of the Series. Cheteshwar Pujara fought on and re-established his reputation as one of the new Walls of the Indian cricket team. His fifty came off 196 balls and it was the slowest in his Test career. However, Cheteshwar Pujara fell for 52 when the second new ball was taken and the match was evenly poised. (Image credit: BCCI Twitter handle)

4. Rishabh Pant fifty

However, Rishabh Pant had shown his class in the Tests in Melbourne and Sydney and here, he was once again the key. Rishabh Pant mixed caution and recklessness and he was aided by plenty of luck as he smashed a magnificent fifty. Rishabh Pant shared a magnificent partnership with Washington Sundar that eased the pressure and put Australia firmly on the backfoot. (Image credit: BCCI Twitter handle)

When Rishabh Pant thumped a low full toss from Josh Hazlewood to the long-off fence, India became the first nation since the West Indies in 1988 to win a Test in Gabba. Australia's 32-year domination in Brisbane had ended in grand style. India won by three wickets and won the series 2-1. They became the second nation after South Africa to win back-to-back Test series in Australia in the modern era. (Image credit: BCCI Twitter handle)

India achieved their highest successful chase in Australia and this win was considered to be the best in their cricketing history. From being mentally shot after getting bowled out for 36 in Adelaide, the Indian cricket team had to withstand injuries and they had to also cope up with the hostile environment in Sydney and Brisbane. Ahead of the Brisbane Test, comments by Australian ministers did not go down well regarding coronavirus quarantine rules while racial abuse at Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj was just the tipping point in making India even more determined and stronger. For India, this is the ultimate crowning glory for it was achieved in adverse circumstances. Leeds 2002, Adelaide 2003, Kolkata 2001, Johannesburg 2007, Rawalpindi 2004, Trent Bridge 2007, Melbourne 2018, Adelaide 2018, Melbourne 2020 are all great wins for India in their history. However, Brisbane 2021 will forever be remembered for not just Ajinkya Rahane staying unbeaten as captain but it will be the day Australia's last beacon of a fortress crumbled dramatically.
