Thirty-nine Pakistani prisoners, including two women, repatriated by India as a goodwill gesture arrived home through the Wagah land border today, officials said.

The Pakistani nationals were handed over by Indian authorities to the paramilitary Pakistan Rangers at Wagah.

Most of them were arrested in India after they illegally cross the border, Pakistan Rangers spokesperson Mahboob Hussain told PTI.

The freed prisoners will be allowed to go home after their documents have been verified. Those who have no place to go will be handed over to the Edhi Foundation," Hussain said, referring to one of Pakistan's leading humanitarian organisations.

The prisoners were freed from jails across India and repatriated to Pakistan.

Some of them were detained after they overstayed in India after the expiry of their visas.
