Things have hotted up between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Nimbus. A day after its working committee decided to terminate the contract with its broadcaster, the BCCI served the termination notice to Nimbus. Hours later, Nimbus retaliated by sending a legal notice to the BCCI.

It is understood that Nimbus threatened to drag the BCCI to court for the way the whole issue was handled. “We’ve told them that we’ll see them in court,” said a Nimbus official. It was the second legal notice from the broadcaster in two weeks.

The first notice on the ‘performance’ of India-Pakistan series was served a couple of weeks back. While the broadcasters were seeking an assurance on the series, the BCCI was silent. The series is scheduled for March-April.

On Tuesday, Nimbus released a statement. “Given the confidentiality provisions of such contracts, Nimbus is unable to discuss details with the media, but can confirm that it has acted in compliance of its contractual obligations and variations agreed between the parties from time to time. Nimbus is working towards achieving full resolution of any differences that may have arisen between the parties and is hopeful of a reasoned conclusion of these in the coming weeks,” the statement said. “Obviously, it has fully reserved all its rights and options, including invoking the arbitration process if need be. No further statement will be made by Nimbus in this regard till its discussions with BCCI are concluded in the coming weeks.”

It has been learnt that the Ranji match between Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, being televised live on Neo Cricket, will be off air from Wednesday. Nimbus, which also owns the production rights, will continue to produce domestic matches.

“We’ll produce the matches as per our contract. It is up to the BCCI to decide which channel they want the matches to be shown in,” said the Nimbus official.

Meanwhile, the BCCI swung into action and took steps towards the encashment of the bank guarantee submitted by the broadcasters. It is understood that treasurer Ajay Shirke was in town on Tuesday and met the bankers. It was not clear if the BG has been encashed yet.
