The hearing into the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s appeal against the International Cricket Council’s decision to ban Feroze Shah Kotla Stadium for one year has taken place.

It was learnt that the hearing was conducted by ICC-appointed appeals commissioner Michael Beloff via a teleconference. It was held on Monday between London, where Beloff is based, and Dubai where the top BCCI officials are currently attending an ICC Board meeting.

It could not be confirmed when the verdict will come but it may not be too late. It may be recalled that ICC had banned the Kotla for one year following an ODI between India and Sri Lanka which was stopped abruptly because of ‘dangerous’ condition of the pitch. The BCCI appealed against the ICC’s verdict.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that Andy Atkinson, the ICC’s pitch consultant, will be visiting the Kotla soon. He will also be visiting Mumbai to inspect the pitch at the Wankhede Stadium which will host the final of the 2011 World Cup. “The exact dates of the visit are not known but tentatively Atkinson could be coming to the city on February 15 and 16 from the national capital where he will inspect the Kotla on February 13 and 14. He will be visiting India from Sri Lanka,” a source said.

Meanwhile, the junior committee of the BCCI held an inquiry into the under-19 semifinal match between Maharashtra and Punjab which was allotted to the latter under ‘controversial’ circumstances. The BCCI heard the version of the Maharashtra Cricket Association which protested the match referee’s decision to allot the tie to hosts Punjab.
