The stage is set for the blockbuster final clash of 2016 Kabaddi World Cup between India and Iran. Right from day 1 of the tournament, the two giants of the kabaddi circuit were favourites to reach the summit clash and everything fell in place perfectly as Iran defeated Republic of Korea and India thrashed Thailand in the semifinals at TransArena Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday

In a thrilling contest, Iran held their nerve as they edged Republic of Korea to enter the final. It was a battle of tactics as Iran beat Republic of Korea 28-22 in a closely fought encounter to reach the final of the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup. Iran’s defence that has been their biggest strength delivered when it mattered the most as they treated the crowd to a defensive masterclass. Despite a slow start, their defence scored 11 points and came up with points at crucial moments to thwart Republic of Korea raiders.

Iran’s star man Meraj Sheykh had a brilliant game and scored seven points whereas Abozar Mighani had four tackle points. Jang Kun Lee who has had a terrific tournament failed to deliver in the second half as Republic of Korea bowed out of the tournament.

On the other hand the hosts made little work of Thailand as they delivered a master class in the second semi final. India produced a remarkable performance as they crushed Thailand 73-20 to storm into the final. Pardeep Narwal scored 14 points and had a terrific game to lead his team into the final. A packed house at the TransStadia Arena were treated to a spectacular show as the big guns of India came out blazing and Thailand just couldn’t cope with India’s supremacy in all aspects of the sport.

India had it easy in the semis but Iran would be a tough nut to crack for Anup Kumar and his boys. Will the two time defending champions bag a hat-trick of trophies or will Iran break the domination of the hosts? All questions will be answered in a few hours from now.
