Misbah thought he was sending the Joginder Sharma delivery to a place where there was no one, but he did not know that there is a Malayali in every corner of the world.

Remember that SMS? Sreesanth took that catch off Misbah-ul-Haq and the rest was history. Whether India repeats the history is anybody’s guess but the architects of that glorious final moment of India’s win over Pakistan in the final of the Twenty20 World Cup in 2007 cannot be repeated. Both Sreesanth and Joginder will not be part of India’s defence of the Cup in London in June this year. Both have been left out of the 30 probables’ list announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday.

Sreesanth’s absence was expected. The Kerala pacer is yet to recover from ankle injury. He will not be taking part in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Joginder, part of Chennai Super Kings, said he is disappointed.

“I was looking forward to the event which gave me all this fame. If the probables had been announced after IPL, I would have made the cut. Also I had two surgeries one for my shoulder and another for my heel injury due to which I could not even perform in the domestic season. I had no platform to prove my talent and fitness,” Joginder said.

Other notable exclusions from that squad are Piyush Chawla and Ajit Agarkar.
There are five players — Zaheer Khan, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, Abhishek Nayar and Dhawal Kulkarni — from Mumbai among the probables. The list has four wicketkeepers — Dinesh Karthik, Wriddhiman Saha and Naman Ojha besides skipper
MS Dhoni.

The final squad, as per the ICC requirement, is expected be announced before May 5. The tournament will be held in England from June 5-21. Probables: Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Virender Sehwag, Dinesh Karthik, Gautam Gambhir, M Vijay, Ajinkya Rahane, Suresh Raina, Subramaniam Badrinath, Rohit Sharma, Robin Uthappa, Yuvraj Singh, Virat Kohli, Yusuf Pathan, Manoj Tiwary, Irfan Pathan, Wriddhiman Saha, Zaheer Khan, Abhishek Nayar, Ishant Sharma, Amit Mishra, Munaf Patel, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, RP Singh, Pragyan Ojha, L Balaji, Harbhajan Singh, Dhawal Kulkarni, Praveen Kumar, Naman Ojha
