Over 5,000 youth helped BJP’s golden run sparkle

With the participation of over 5,000 people, Bharatiya Janata Party’s youth cell’s ‘Golden Run’ at Sardar Patel stadium on Sunday morning truly sparkled. The youth cell received an overwhelming response for its unique programme aimed at attracting young voters in favour of the party, ahead of the general elections. 

The areas surrounding the Sardar Patel stadium were jam packed with runners who flocked in dozens to participate in the programme. The BJP youth cell programme entitled ‘Golden run of golden Gujarat for a golden era’. State BJP president Purushottam Rupala flagged off the rally, which was scheduled to cover 5.5 km distance.

Expressing his happiness at the youth cell’s initiative for such programmes, Rupala said, “I am very happy that the youth BJP cell got a huge response for the unique programme. Witnessing the massive turnout, I am confident that the people of the state will also support chief minister Narendra Modi’s dream of making Gujarat golden by 2010,” he said.

Organised in four categories - general category for male and female, for children below 15 years of age, for senior citizens and for the physically handicapped - the rally carried a cash award of Rs5,100 besides trophy and felicitation certificate for the winner in each category.

Echoing Rupala’s statement, the president of state youth cell of BJP, Jitu Waghani, said, “The success in itself speaks about the people’s enthusiastic support in realising chief minister Modi’s dream. The rally also saw participants from different districts that had come all the way for the rally,” he said.

Dhwani Sharma, convener of the golden run programme, said that the strong crowd showed support for the BJP and that the people are ready to face any circumstances for the state and the nation. State BJP vice president, Kaushik Patel, city mayor Kanaji Thakore, and Geeta Patel, MLA from Sabarmati, were among the many leaders who were present on the occasion.
