Livelihood Resource Centre to help disadvantaged youngsters find employment under the Umeed project was set up on Monday.
A resource centre to ensure sustainable livelihood to the disadvantaged youngsters and women was inaugurate in Behrampura on Monday.
The centre is the first among a series of livelihood resource centres (LRCs) planned across the state under Umeed, a project set up to provide market-oriented livelihood opportunities to youngsters and women.
It is a joint venture training programme implemented by the Gujarat government under the Gujarat Urban Development Mission (GUDM) and Saath, an NGO which facilitates participatory and sustainable development processes for people.
The Behrampura LRC will help the disadvantaged youngsters in the area to find employment as this centre will provide computer education which is a must for every job seeker in today’s competitive world.
LRC consultant Nitesh Oza said, “Project Umeed does provide the technical training required for a person to find a simple and capable job. With computer learning one of the top priorities for any job, they need help at a far greater stage as computer courses these days cost a lot.”
The LRCs will be set up at all Umeed centres across the state. Rick Desai, Saath and American Indian federation volunteer, said, “We will be offering various software courses like Tally, Java, C++, along with computer basics, English speaking and net surfing at these centres as per the student’s requirement and these courses will be taught at a minimal charge. Any student can apply for the software course irrelevant of the fact that they were affiliated to Umeed or not. The first preference, however, will always be given to Umeed students.” At the end of the course, help for placement will also be provided at these centres.
