NEW DELHI: Industry body FICCI's ladies wing FICCI Ladies Organisation Wednesday said B&B is the model where private property owners make available accommodation for short-term commercial needs.

Releasing a report, FLO said Delhi is likely to face a shortfall of between 10,000 to 20,000 hotel rooms by 2010.

B&B establishment owners could take a series of steps to strengthen the business model, including maintaining proper size of the establishments and proximity and invest on marketing, the report said.

The model also provides good return on investment and the case studies taken up by FLO showed that while in South Delhi and New Delhi, the owners make return on their investment in one year, in other localities the period is 15 months.

"The time to start such a business is now," the FLO said citing the likely shortage of hotel rooms in the run up to the 2010 CWG.

Regarding the size of such establishments, the report said: "...the most workable size is a unit of 2-5 rooms."

The report has put special emphasis upon safety and security of the guests and called upon the B&B operators to "advice and guide their guests, particularly foreigners, about
local conditions and customs."

About impact of political instability and incidents like the Mumbai attacks, the report said although such situations do affect B&B model also, the level of impact is much less
than upon the general hospitality sector.
