Police raids houses in fake currency case

A three-member team from Gujarat and Malda police raided two houses at Kaliachak in connection with the circulation of fake currency notes.

MALDA (WB): A three-member team from Gujarat and Malda police raided two houses at Kaliachak in connection with the circulation of fake currency notes.
    
Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Shyam Singh on Monday said that the team conducted the raid on Saturday but the two persons they were looking for had absconded.
    
The police team from Gujarat had brought with them a man arrested from Vadodara in a case of fake currency. The two absconding persons are the man's accomplices, he said.
    
The man was caught with 46 fake currency notes in Vadodara earlier this month.
    
Malda serves as a corridor for the entry of fake currency notes from Bangladesh.
    
Fake notes of an estimated face value of Rs 5 lakh had been circulated from January to August this year. Notes with a total face value of Rs 7.5 lakh were circulated last year. Ten people were arrested this year, police said.
