Woman helps cops nab son wanted for rape

A woman helped the police arrest her son, who had allegedly raped a woman in Orissa's Balasore district after tying her to a tree, an official said on Thursday.

BHUBANESWAR: A woman helped the police arrest her son, who had allegedly raped a woman in Orissa's Balasore district after tying her to a tree, an official said on Thursday.

Nitay Mohanty, 22, a resident of Abhayamahai village tied the 35-year-old woman to a tree in an isolated area near the village and allegedly raped her July 24. Balasore is about 200 km from here.

He then fled and hid at his uncle's house in Keodanal village in neighbouring West Bengal.
 
His mother, Chhayamani Mohanty, 50, expressed her desire to help police.

She accompanied the police team that arrested Nitay Tuesday from his uncle's home, police officer Parshuram Sahu said.
