SOTOGRANDE: After two days of robust golf, Jyoti Randhawa looked little ragged as he carded three-over 74 to slide to tied eighth while an identical round pushed defending champion Jeev Milkha Singh to tied 29th after the penultimate round of the Volvo Masters golf here.

Overnight tied third, Randhawa turned his worst card of the week so far via an error-strewn round in which he tallied two birdies as against five bogeys.

His three-day total of four-over 217 saw him sharing the eighth place with Graeme McDowell, who carded an identical 74. Randhawa had a sluggish start as he bogeyed the third, fifth and seventh before bouncing back with a birdie-birdie finish to his front nine.

The back stretch, however, proved less benign as the Indian conceded a shot each o the 12th and 18th and  failed to sink in a single birdie.

Randhawa won’t be happy with his putting as he needed six more than the previous round, including a three putt.

Compatriot Jeev, meanwhile, turned in his second successive card of three-over 74 and still managed to rise to tied 29th with an aggregate of 11-over 224 at the par-71 Club De Golf Valderrama.

Jeev birdied the third and 14th holes but in between, dropped shots on the fourth, seventh, nine and 11th and then stumbled on his fifth bogey on the 17th for yet another average show.

Meanwhile, Englishman Justin Rose dropped three shots in the first two holes but eventually overcame the jittery start to post an even-par 71 to maintain his four-stroke lead, over bitter European Tour Order of Merit rival Padraig Harrington (71) and Simon Dyson (69).

Atwal moves up to 50th
Arjun Atwal put behind his disastrous second round memories to card four-under 67 and lift himself from the pit to tied 50th after the penultimateround in the Nationwide Tour Championship at Barona Creek, Lakeside.

Atwal, who was languishing at tied 55th after stuttering to 75 in the second round, moved up with a three-day total of three-under 210 even though his hopes of finishing inside the top 25 in the money list, which would have earned him his 2008 PGA Tour card, lay in tatters.

The Orlando-based Indian came up with a vastly improved show in his third round with bogeys on the 13th and 18th holes being the only blots in an otherwise impressive card dotted with birdies on the first, eighth, ninth, 11th, 14th and 15th holes.

At the top of the table, Richard Johnson carded 67 to total 197 that gives him a wafer-thin one-stroke lead ahead of a lurking Tom Scherrer (67).
