NEW DELHI: Accusing the Centre of adopting a step-motherly attitude towards it, the Khaplang wing of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) has asked the government to 'rein in' activities of its rival NSCN faction.

"At present the government is concentrating only on the NSCN-IM and our issue has been more or less sidelined," top NSCN-K leader A Z Jami said.

"NSCN-IM cadres have been violating ceasefire rules and attacking our members. But the government measures to check their activities have been far from satisfactory," he alleged.

An NSCN-K team held discussions with the Centre last week and discussed issues relating to ceasefire ground rules.

"Our foremost demand to the government was to stop the NSCN-IM from attacking our cadres," Jami said.

"We also demanded shifting of our ceasefire board office and strengthening the ceasefire ground rules," he said.

Another senior NSCN-K leader K Mulatonu, who is also the supervisor of the group's ceasefire supervisory board, said several issues relating to the rival faction indulging in unbearable activities were discussed.

"The activities of NSCN-IM are not good for the ongoing truce between the security forces and the NSCN-K," Mulatonu said.

The government for the first time announced a truce with NSCN-K in 1998 which has been extended since then several times. The current ceasefire expires on April 27, 2008.

Jami said the group has demanded shifting of the ceasefire supervisor board office from Nagaland's Mon district to Zunheboto.

"The present office in Mon is located in a very interior place," he said.

The group has designated camps in Suruhoto, 200 km from capital Kohima and in Tizit town of Mon.

Jami said since NSCN-IM was engaged in talks with the Centre, it will not hold any political talks with the government.

"We'll not not hold any political talks unless the government of India finishes its talks with the NSCN-IM," he said.

The NSCN-K has also decided to set up six new designated camps within November, he said, adding another round of talks with the Centre is expected to be held in a week's time.
