8 girls arrested for ragging juniors

BHOPAL: Eight senior girl students of local Institute of Hotel Management were arrested last night for ragging two freshers in their hostel last week, police said on Monday.

The third year students were arrested under sections 294 and 323 IPC for beating up and abusing the first year students- Neelam Gautam and Pooja- who lodged a complaint with the police on October 4.

The arrested were identified as: Joyce Neel Pinto, Rohini Oberoi, Heena Issac, Kawalpreet Kunwar, Neha Khanna, Deepti Nirkhe, Sumani
Walia and Upasana Goyal.

They will be produced before the court later in the day, police added.

Meanwhile, police registered a case against Kunal Choudhary and Neeraj Kumar, both second year students of a private engineering college here, on the charge of ragging and beating up a first year engineering student Vishal Sharma in the hostel last week.
