CBI court convicts Telgi, four associates

A special Central Bureau of Investigation court here on Friday convicted Abdul Karim Telgi, prime accused in the fake stamp paper scam, and four of his associates finding them guilty of trading in fake stamp papers.

BANGALORE: A special Central Bureau of Investigation court here on Friday convicted Abdul Karim Telgi, prime accused in the fake stamp paper scam, and four of his associates finding them guilty of trading in fake stamp papers.
 
Judge Virupaksha Vishwanath Angadi, pronouncing the judgment, said the charges framed against the accused had been proved.
 
Those convicted are Irfan, Badriddin, Vazir Ahmed and Pradeep Kumar, besides Telgi, who was produced before the court via video conference from Yerawada Jail in Pune.
 
The quantum of punishment would be pronounced on Saturday, the judge said.
 
Of the 40 cases relating to the fake stamp paper scam being investigated by the CBI, this is the first case registered by police under Peenaya police station limits against Telgi and his associates on charges of selling fake stamp papers worth about Rs 42 lakh to a private firm, Samilabs.
 
Telgi has been named as accused No 5 in this case.
 
Advocate Anees Ali Khan had argued for associates of Telgi.
 
Advocate M T Nanaiah represented Telgi.
