SRINAGAR: Hardline separatists have declared a war against Pakistan’s president Gen Pervez Musharaf for agreeing to set aside Islamabad’s claim on “disputed” Jammu and Kashmir.

Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani made a frontal attack on Musharaf saying he does not trust his own nation and his recent remarks were the creation of his own mind and not the general opinion of the Pakistani establishment.

“Pakistan’s army ruler has neither consulted his cabinet not parliament or opposition while making his point about setting aside Islamabad’s claim on Kashmir. Even foreign office seems not toeing the line of its president. He does not trust his own nation. This speaks that the recent remarks were the creation of Gen Musharaf’s mind,” he said.

The leader was reacting to Gen Musharaf’s recent four point formula for solution to Kashmir issue. The Pakistani president had admitted that he was ready to forgo claims on Kashmir if self governance, demilitarisation, autonomy and joint management is accepted as solution to the vexed issue.

Geelani admitted that Musharaf was afraid of India’s economic and military might which has forced him to change his opinion quite often. “After 9/11 Musharaf has become weaker. He has taken several decisions under US pressure. Now he is afraid of India because its military and economic might is just what he cannot beat.”
