United States President George W Bush has renewed the national emergency he declared days after the September 11, 2001 attacks, warning "the terrorist threat continues."

WASHINGTON: United States President George W Bush has renewed the national emergency he declared days after the September 11, 2001 attacks, warning "the terrorist threat continues."

The White House announced the move on Tuesday, one day before Bush was to give the third in a series of speeches on the war on terrorism ahead of November US legislative elections expected to be overshadowed by the unpopular Iraq war.

"Because the terrorist threat continues, the national emergency declared on September 14, 2001, and the measures adopted to deal with that emergency must continue in effect beyond September 14, 2006," Bush said.

"Therefore, I am continuing in effect for an additional year the national emergency I declared on September 14, 2001, with respect to the terrorist threat," he said.
