As play began early at Adelaide Oval on Day Three of the first Test between Australia and India, Australia captain Michael Clarke decided to declare on the overnight score of 517/7. It was a bright sunny day and India braced up to face the likes of Mitchell Johnson and Peter Siddle on the pitch that offered no movement on the first two days.

India began well with Shikhar Dhawan was more fluent of the two openers. He seemed connecting well and even the flashy shots wide of off stump looked confident. Murali Vijay on the other end took his while to score his first runs, that came the 19th ball after Siddle made a mess of what was routine stop.

Like India, Australia, too, introduced Nathan Lyon early into the attack but that was mainly to see if there was any purchase for him. But the breakthrough came from Ryan Harris, who bowled stump to stump and got that small movement off the pitch, deceiving Dhawan, inducing an inside edge that crashed onto the stumps.

Pujara walked in and Clarke brought back Mitchell Johnson to provide the short burst. While the latter was fast and accurate, he has not been as aggressive as he was against England where he literally terrorized English batsmen. Couple of edges fell between slips, but on the whole Johsnon has been disappointing.

At drinks, India were 63/1 after 15 overs.
