Involving political parties to seek justice from the school proved to be costly for this father.

On Thursday, Yuva Sena activists assaulted physical training teacher, Samir Shivsekar, for slapping Yash Borkar, a class X student of IES Manik Vidyamandir School, Bandra, at a camp. Now, the police arrested his father Sachin Borkar on charges of unlawful assembly, rioting and assault on late Friday night.

Shivsekar filed an FIR against the father, who has been released on bail. “We are investigating the role Borkar played in the teacher’s assault,” said deputy commissioner of police, Pratap Dighavkar (Zone IX).

At the school camp, Shivsekar slapped the boy for misbehaving at 2am. The boy accused the teacher of slapping him several times and making him run in circles.

He also said that four other teachers had told the students not to talk about the incident.

The education department is investigating whether the punishment meted out by the teacher was appropriate or not. ‘’If we find out that the teacher was too harsh with the punishment, we will inform the school to take action against the teacher. We have spoken to the school principal, teachers and the boys. The report should be out in a few days,’’ said PR Pawar, education inspector (North).

The school trustee Satish Lotlikar said that the school was not behind any police complaint.

‘’If the parents had a grouse, they should have approached us. There was no need to involve political parties. After the political activists assaulted the PT teacher, we even had a meeting with the parents and the teacher. We counselled both the sides and assured the parents that they need not worry about their child,” said  Lotlikar.
