Latur SSC chief defends lapse, says the current system is best suited for transporting answer sheets.
More than a dozen bags containing answer sheets of the present SSC examinations were laying unnoticed, for hours together at the Latur state transport (ST) bus stand on Friday generating criticism from several quarters across the state.
Sources told DNA that several political party leaders and top officials of the state education department had questioned the chairman of the Maharashtra state board for secondary and higher secondary board’s (SSC & HSC) Latur division, MR Kadam and asked him why the bags containing the answer sheets were left unattended at the bus stand without adequate protection.
Sources told DNA that the Latur SSC board custodian at Nanded had packed the answer books of the current examination and handed them over to the head post office at Nanded for sending them to the examiners in Osmanabad district.
The postal department officials had as usual booked the bundles with the Maharashtra state road transport corporation (MSRTC) to be sent by bus.
Jatin Kulkarni, a father of a SSC student told DNA, “It is extremely negligent of the SSC divisional board at Latur to send hundreds of answer books to the post office at Nanded for transporting it to Osmanabad,” Kulkarni was of the opinion that the SSC board officials must arrange their own vehicle instead sending of relying on the ST bus service.
When contacted chairman of the SSC board at Latur, Kadam said that he did not find anything wrong with the process. Kadam told DNA “As the incident took place in the premises of the Latur bus stand, nobody touched the parcel. After a few hours, we sent all the bundles safely to the right destination. We cannot provide a separate vehicle for all districts. The service of postal department is best suited for transportation of these answer sheets.”
