In a clear indication that inflation is hurting the common man, a 60-year-old man from Thane hung himself from the ceiling on Wednesday and left behind a note saying that inflation is responsible for his suicide.

Bhimrao Pandare was staying with his wife and three children at Madhura Apartment situated at Savarkar Nagar in Thane. Pandare had retired a few months ago from a private company and had recently shifted to the rented flat from Gandhinagar in Gujarat.

On Wednesday, his wife went to her native place while his elder son was out for work. Pandare was alone at home. At around 10.30pm, when his son returned, he found Pandare hanging from the ceiling with a nylon rope.

When the police searched his room they found a note which is believed to be written by Pandare. The note states that he was tired of the inflation and hence the government should be held responsible for his suicide.

Police officers said that prima facie it appears to be a suicide, but said they won’t confirm it until they receive a report from handwriting experts. Vartaknagar police have filed a case of accidental death and are waiting for the post-mortem report to know the exact cause of his death.
