5 toilets for women in each panel of Pune civic body: Congress

The Congress party has promised to build five public toilets in every panel of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) represented by its party corporator if the party is voted to power in the civic election.

The assurance was given by group leader of the Congress in the PMC and leader of opposition, Aba Bagul, after inaugurating a swanky public toilet on Satara Road for women. One panel comprises of two municipal wards.

Bagul said the toilet had a shower bath, liquid soap and towels, all at a charge of Rs2.

He said if the Congress is voted to power, every party corporator would build five such swanky toilets in his or her respective municipal panel. He would ensure that five such toilets are built in his municipal panel. He said the toilet was built on Satara Road as there was no such facility on the route from Katraj to Shivajinagar. It is the first such posh public toilet in the city. It would be open 24 hours and Rs10.5 lakh have been spent for it.

Bagul said it should be mandatory for developers to build eight-seat toilets for women on every project of more than 5,000 sq ft. The developer should be compensated by allowing more floor space index. This would ensure 500 public toilets in the city.
