Dr Uday Salunkhe, director of Welingkar Institute, which is managed by the Shikshan Prasarak Mandali Trust that has seen income tax raids in the recent past, established a number of companies and a management institution in the last 10 years, it has been revealed.

After dna and Zee 24 Taas published a series of reports on alleged irregularities in the Mandali's functioning, both media offices are being flooded with documents being sent by the Mandali's well-wishers, trying to show it in a good light.

The documents reveal that it was Salunkhe who bought a piece of land admeasuring 10 acres and 12 gunthas in Karla village of Maval taluka on October 26, 2004, for Rs13.90 lakh. The co-buyers were Anuj Pande and Kokila Brahmabhatta. Later, it was Salunkhe who got the land converted to NA (non-agricultural); the building permission was availed in 2008 by Shishya Unnati Consultants Private Limited, which has Salunkhe's family members on its board of directors. The property was sold to Global Education Trust on March 13, 2009, at a consideration price of Rs1.60 crore.

Interestingly, Global Education Trust too was launched by Salunkhe's family members. The trustees and managers of Global Education Trust — Pramod Mulik, Deepa Dixit and Dr PS Rao — are permanent employees of Shikshan Prasarak Mandali.

In the last 15 years, Salunkhe's family members have established 15 companies and built state-of-the-art Institute of Future Education Entrepreneurship and Leadership in Karla. Half of these 15 companies have its offices in Goregaon and Chembur.

Freedom fighter Balasaheb Jambhulkar has approached various authorities, including the Bombay High Court, for a detailed inquiry into all these transactions. The Mandali's governing council members Satish Pawar and Jayant Kirad, along with advocates Damodar Bhandari and Mihir Prabhudesai, have approached various authorities, including HC, with separate cases, demanding inquiry into Salunkhe's transactions as well as in the income tax raids and the Mandali's connection with Welingkar Institute and Salunkhe.
