In order to begin construction work for the underground Colaba-Bandra-Mankhurd Metro line, shifting of offices has begun with the first government office already moving out and an agreement being signed with a private firm.

"There are some government offices that need to be relocated temporarily during the construction duration. One of them is the employment exchange office," said an official.

"The first government office that required to move for Mumbai Metro-3 work has been shifted to an alternative location. We are thankful to the employment exchange office for the prompt action," tweeted the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC).

Similarly, the MMRC also signed the first memorandum of understanding on Friday for a private land after rounds of negotiations. The agreement was signed with a private firm — Lalji Godhu & Co.

The MMRC will require 25.04 hectares of land temporarily from government and semi-government institutions and 8.70 hectares permanently for the project. From private bodies and individuals, a total of 5.45 hectares is needed, of which 2.25 hectares will be required during the project duration and the balance 3.20 hectares permanently.

The MMRC has also sent a proposal to take up redevelopment of buildings in Girgaum-Kalbadevi areas under the cluster redevelopment policy. The metro corporation wants the project to be taken up as a special case so that cluster redevelopment can take off. As per the cluster redevelopment policy of the state government, a minimum of 4,000 sqmtr of area is required to be eligible for redevelopment. But, in case of this project, the total area is close to 2,000 sqmtr.
