Mumbai: Denied a phone call, man pushed to death infront of truck

The arrested person has been identified as Shivaji Mohite (29), a resident of Kalachowkie.

Kalachowkie police on Sunday arrested a man who allegedly entered in a brawl with a person known to him, in a bar over a trivial issue. The accused asked the deceased person to give his mobile phone to make a phone call.

When the deceased refused, the accused assaulted him and flung him in front of a speeding truck under which the accused got crushed and later died during treatment.

The arrested person has been identified as Shivaji Mohite (29), a resident of Kalachowkie. He has criminal cases registered against him at Malabar Hill, DB Marg and Kalachowkie police stations.

The deceased person has been identified as Parel resident Kishore Kailat (32).

According to the police, complainant Vijay Salve (30), a resident of Parel, had gone to Yatrik Bar at Cotton Green area on Saturday night along with his friend Kailat. After some time, Mohite arrived in the bar and Kailat, who was known to Mohite, got the latter introduced to Salve.

"Post midnight, Mohite asked Kailat to give him his mobile phone in order to make a phone call. Kailat refused to give his phone, which resulted in a verbal fight between him and Mohite. Mohite then issued a death threat to Kailat, after which Kailat and Salve cleared the bill and left from the bar," said a police officer.

Mohite, who was armed with a knife, followed Kailat and Salve outside the bar and grabbed the collar of Kailat's shirt.

"Around 12.25 am on Sunday, with the intention of killing Kailat, the accused threw Kailat in front of an approaching truck. The truck went over Kailat's body. Mohite fled from the spot, while Kailat was rushed to KEM Hospital by the locals with the help of police. Around 3.40 am Kailat was declared dead by the doctors," said the officer.

The police team managed to trace Mohite near Albert Junction skywalk around 4.50 am and had also seized a knife from him. Mohite has been booked under sections 302 (murder), 506 (2) (criminal intimidation) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of the Indian Penal Code.
