The Amboli Police have arrested a 35-year-old accused who was on the run after allegedly duping a married couple of Rs 56 lakh. The accused identified as Vinod Chogle, was nabbed by the police from the Girgaum area on Monday and was sent to police custody by the court.

According to the police, in 2013, the couple, who was in search of a flat was approached by Chogle who claimed to make a convenient deal for them. "Chogle first showed the couple a flat in a MHADA building and told them that the flat was big and hence taking it would be a better option. After the deal was finalised, he gave an allotment letter to the couple which later turned out to be fake. Chogle then went absconding. The couple had already paid a total of Rs 56 lakh. The couple reached out to police in June, 2018 and after a complaint was registered, the search for Chogle was intensified." said a police officer.

"On Monday, informers alerted us that Chogle was back in town and he was arrested immediately. On being questioned, he admitted to have taken money from about 12 people and many police stations have similar cases registered against him over fraud and cheating. Chogle has been sent to police custody until Saturday and we are trying to reach out to those who have been duped by him earlier," the officer added.
