While most Ganapati mandals are experimenting with different and unique pandal themes, Shreerang Sahaniwas Ganeshotsav Mandal has tried to capture catastrophic impacts of underwater pollution. To make the impact on visitors more powerful, the society has put up a 9-minute presentation to spread awareness on the same.

"Complete with corals, reef and aquatic animals, we have tried to capture the beauty of the underwater scenery in the pandal. We have also made a presentation of around nine minutes in which we talk about the importance of aquatic life and how underwater pollution is threatening their very existence," said Pramod Sawant, president, and art director of the mandal.

Though the 48-year-old Ganapati has always been an eco-friendly one, it was only four years ago that the society decided to opt for eco-friendly decoration. "Earlier, we would use thermocol, now we have switched to eco-friendly materials like cardboard," said Sawant who conceptualized the idea.

Besides Sawant, a number of children from the society participated in making the decoration and the presentation. "Children were more than eager to lend a hand of help. They even gave voice for the presentation. After the festival, we have plans to give the presentation to a school so that children in that school can be made aware of underwater pollution," said Sawant. In line with the theme, the society will be immersing the idol in an artificial pond to avoid water pollution. The society will also dispose of the flowers in the nirmalayas that municipal corporation has put up for composting.
