Domestic help held for stealing jewellery

The Malabar Hill police have arrested an 18-year-old domestic help for allegedly stealing gold and diamond ornaments worth Rs8 lakh from the Nepean Sea Road residence of an interior designer. The police have recovered the stolen items. The accused was identified as Gulshan Paswan.

Complainant Sapna Makhija lives at the Mansarovar Apartmen, Malabar Hill, with her husband, 15-year-old-son and in-laws. According to her complaint, during the day time, all family members leave for work or studies, leaving behind the elderly in-laws and two domestic servants Rohit Paswan (19) and Gulshan. She added that she kept her ornaments in a safe at home.

"On September 23, the victim realised that some of her ornaments were missing. In her police complaint, she raised suspicion regarding her domestic helps, after which they were interrogated by the police. During sustained questioning, Gulshan broke down and confessed to the crime. He told the police that he had hidden the stolen items in the kitchen," said an a Malabar Hill police officer.

He added that Gulshan has been booked under section 381 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
