Despite Bombay High Court order, noise helpline not set up

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday expressed deep anguish over the non-compliance of its order passed 12 months ago, directing the state government to ensure proper implementation of noise pollution rules.

A division bench of Justice Abhay Oka and Justice A K Menon said, "The BMC commissioner should personally look into the issue of setting grievance redressal mechanism. Or else it would be held as a case of aggravated contempt of court. "

The bench asked the state government to issue directions to the Municipal corporation and police stations too set up helpline number for citizens for lodging noise-related complaints, during the Diwali festival.

Advocate Rohaan Cama, appearing for Awaaz foundation, placed on record an affidavit stating that numbers 1292 and 1293 started before Ganpati festival by Civic body were not operational. The situation was same in Ulhasnagar and Navi Mumbai.
