All that glitters

The scale and pomp of the ultra lavish wedding celebration they hosted almost bordered on profligacy, drawing much comment even from top industrialists of Mumbai who were in attendance. Which is why it came as a real shock when we heard that the bride’s family may actually be in something of a financial soup. There’s hardly been a whiff about their ongoing problem in repaying a nationalised bank to which they’ve mortgaged their property, and now the matter has landed in the debt recovery tribunal causing much embarrassment. Apparently an eviction order had been served to vacate their South Mumbai home barely a month ago right in the middle of the wedding preparations.

Luckily they managed to procure a stay and peel off the notices pasted in their housing society, but there were red faces in the family as curious neighbours wanted to know why officials accompanied by policemen were coming knocking at their door. Truly, appearances can be deceptive.
