Zee MD & CEO Punit Goenka wins IMPACT Person of the Year 2014

The 10th edition of the IMPACT Person of the Year saw the likes of Sam Balsara, Chairman and Managing Director, Madison World, Piyush Pandey, Executive Chairman and Creative Director – South Asia, Ogilvy & Mather India, Prasoon Joshi, Chairman, McCann WorldGroup APAC & CEO, Punit Goenka, MD & CEO, ZEEL, BD Park, President & CEO, Samsung S West Asia and Sachin Bansal & Binny Bansal, CEO & COO, Flipkart being nominated for the prestigious award.

The winner of IMPACT Person of the Year 2014 was Punit Goenka who has led ZEEL network from the front and was not only instrumental in making it profitable but also saw to its expansion to 169 countries across the world. In his acceptance speech, Goenka thanked all his friends and family for their support. He said that it was always a pleasure to be recognised for all the achievements and for making a difference to the industry. On the occasion he further said, “For me this is special, since it also recognises and applauds the human side and is hence titled the Impact Person of the Year. At Zee, we espouse the belief of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam were we envision a world without any boundaries, religion or all differences. A world which is one family and is not just a noble or a philosophical thought but it reflects and resonates in our approach as a global content company.”

In his speech he showed his appreciation for the other nominees and acknowledged their contribution to the industry in their respective fields. He further showed his appreciation towards Essel Group Chairman, Subhash Chandra, who also presided over the award ceremony. “I would also like to thank my entire family especially Shreyasi, my wife, who has been a great support to me. And I accept this on behalf of all of them and the entire team at Zee,” he added.

Goenka’s focus on content and digital play is all set to achieve the company’s target of reaching 1 billion viewers by 2020. His hands-on approach has been instrumental in steering the ZEEL empire to new frontiers of success and profitability.

In the industry, as Chairman of the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India, Goenka spearheads the industry’s ambitious drive to overhaul the crucial television audience measurement and ratings system in the country. Goenka also dons the hat of Vice President – Measurement at Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF).
