Pepsico chairman Indra Nooyi met the food processing minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal which many saw as a courtsey call on Monday.

Media reports suggest that a statement by the food processing ministry, in a statement, has said that it has asked the global beverage giant to bring down the sugar content in the soft drinks.

"PepsiCo has been requested to further bring down the sugar content of soft drinks so that the health aspects of such products are duly taken care of," the ministry said in a statement after the meeting, NDTV reported.

The ministry also reportedly asked Nooyi if Pepsi could help in coming up with packed food for the mid day mean scheme in India, perhaps helping to reduce iron deficiency or just take care of the nutritional value of the meal provided to children by the state. Nooyi said she would look into it.

Nooyi also has reportedly discussed solid investment plans in the state. Pepsi, in 2013, has already said it would invest Rs 33000 crore in India which would double its production capacity in the country by 2020.

Pepsico has 38 bottling plants in India apart from three food factories.
