It's one of the most looked-forward to music event in the city amongst indie music lovers. This time, Live From The Console has three acts lined up from across the country. There's debutant music producer, multi instrumentalist and singer, Sid Vashi curently based in Mumbai, who will showcase electronica layered with live instrumentation and vocals. Then there's an all brother indie-rock band, Moondogs comprising Shayaan Bhat, Syed Aaqib, Syed Hamza and Awais Yousf all the way from Jammu and Kashmir, who are influenced by various bands and artists but have an original sound of their own. The third act will be The Ska Vengers, a ska, punk, dancehall Delhi-band who will launch their new music video for their single 'Badda'! and will be playing in Mumbai after more than two years.

Early beginnings
We spoke to Sid Vashi on his upcoming first live solo show. This 22-year-old is originally from Detroit, US. His family moved to India when he was 16. He lived in Pune then Girgaon and moved to Mumbai few months ago. This neuroscience and philosophy graduate has a background jazz. His association with music began at an early age at the age of 11 when he learnt to play the saxaphone and played in the school band.

Sound of music
In September 2013, Sid released an LP titled Motherland Tourism featuring nine tracks. He grew up listening to Bollywood from the likes of AR Rahman. "I have used samples from Bollywood and used them in a context that's not familiar," he explains.

So when did the switch toward electronica happend? "When I was around 14 or 15, I used to record rock music using a microphone at home. That's when I realised that I could do much more using electronica. With help of a computer, you can learn how to use softwares and make music. The computer has become an instrument today. Everybody has access to a computer today but what's most accessible to people can be both, a good and a bad thing too. Anybody can make beats. But what sets one apart is the quality of music and the dedication that one puts in," says Sid.

Future plans
Two months ago, Sid began working on on what will be his debut album and has completed around 20 per cent of the work so far. He plans to pursue music for the next one year and then go to medical school back in the US. Why not pursue music full time? "I did thought of being a musician full time, but that was during my younger days. Music is therapeutic, but I'm more drawn towards medicine," he says.

Tonight's gig
Sid will be playing a few tracks from his previous Motherland Tourism LP and some new tracks as well. Some of them include Darling, Tere Bina and Daniel Glover and the rest he doesn't want to divulge and keep as a surprise.
