When British pop artiste, Rika (Chandrika) Darbari’s single No Need became a runaway success last year, it not only won her accolades but also attention from international music labels. Now, the 17-year-old singer of Indian origin has been signed by UK’s musical giant. Virgin EMI in a global deal. This makes her the first and the youngest British Indian-origin artiste to break the glass ceiling of the international music industry.

Rika followed No Need with another single The Others, with both the self-released songs together garnering a whopping 2 million views globally. Rika, who became BBC Asia’s Future Sound of 2018 and being declared Best New Pop in the UK, by BBC Radio1, says, “Being the first Brit Asian teen female artiste to sign with such a label is an honour and I feel confident that Virgin EMI will really give a no-holds-barred backing to my career.”
