Specialists to talk about early threat & ways to save vision

At 3-day event around 600-700 national and international retina specialists will participate

Retina experts across the globe gathered in the city for the Vitreo Retinal Society workshop.  The workshop aims to bring key opinion leaders in vitreo retinal surgery from across the country and highlight on the recent developments in the treatment of retinal diseases. 

In pre-conference on Thursday, during the discussions and sessions main focus was on the latest advances in retinal imaging technologies and how to diagnose early and treat in a better way to save vision in most of the cases. 
During various sessions OCT angiography, ultra wide field imaging and multi modal imaging were the main discussion points. 

Dr A Giridhar president VRSI from Kochi, Dr Raja Narayanan honorary secretary VRSI, Dr Vishali Gupta convenor scientific committee VRSI from PGI Chandigarh, Dr Pawan Shorey Organising Chairman, Dr RK Sharma organising secretary and other senior retina experts including Dr Manish Nagpal from Ahmadabad and Dr Shroff from New Delhi were also present at the event.

These experts also discussed how to increase use of Artificial Intelligence in ophthalmology and how to detect diseases in early stages like changes occurring in diabetes (diabetic retinopathy). 

In another session, age related macular degeneration and other retinal diseases were also discussed and experts shared their experience about how can these technologies be used to treat people.

On Friday, the main conference of VRSI 2018 will be inaugurated by Rajya Sabha Member Dr Subhash Chandra and guest of honour will be Dr SK Sarin. 

As per the organisers on the first day of the main conference, which is a three-day event, around 600-700 national and international retina specialist are expected to be in Jaipur.

“With the participation of so many foreign retina experts we hope that this conference will be one of its kind and set new benchmark. The purpose of the annual meeting of the Vitreo Retinal Society is to bring key opinion leaders in vitreo retinal surgery from across the country and highlight on the recent developments in the treatment of retinal diseases, said  Dr RK Sharma organising secretary of VRSI 2018. 

Vitreo Retinal Society has nearly 1000 members and these are trained retina specialists who have dedicated their life to preventing blindness from retinal diseases,” added Dr RK Sharma.
