In a case that has left the Ahmedabad police in bewilderment, a complaint filed by the husband of a missing woman at the Gaekwad Haveli police station has led the police to the abductor who is allegedly married to the woman.

According to a source in the police, Salma Sheikh (name changed), a 24-year-old woman, went missing last week. Her husband, Mohammed Mansuri, registered a missing complaint two days back at the Gaekwad Haveli police station.

However, on October 27, Salma was found near the Gaekwad Haveli. In her statement to the police, she alleged that she had been abducted by a man named Aslam Sheikh. Aslam confined her and raped her for a few days at various places, including Anand and Shah Alam.

Later, Aslam dropped her off at the Gaekwad Haveli for his own safety, she alleged.
However, Mohammed alleged that the police refused to file a complaint of rape even after recording the victim's statement.

He said, "We have been running from pillar to post with the complaint, but nobody is ready to take cognizance of the issue."

He also alleged that Aslam had married Salma forcefully with the help of a priest.
When contacted, PI AY Sarvani of Gaekwad Haveli police station said, "This complaint is not genuine. The person against whom the complaint was filed has produced a 'nikahnama' of their marriage in the presence of witnesses on June 26. Moreover, Aslam has filed a cross complaint saying that the woman and her husband were blackmailing him."
