A protest aimed at requesting Gujarat university vice-chancellor Parimal Trivedi to remove the tainted doctor Ketan Desai from the newly formed senate turned violent today.

Members of Student Parent Association of India (SPAI), who were agitating against Ketan Desai's inclusion in the senate since past few weeks entered in to a quarrel with Prof HP Bhalodia, believed to be a close ally of disgraced doctor Ketan Desai.

The quarrel took a violent turn as the professor allegedly threatened angry protestors. As it turned out to be, he had to pay the price as angry protestors manhandled him and damaged his luxury car.

The matter only died down when police and security personnel took the professor away from the angry protesting mob.

SPAI members and some students had begun their agitation in front of V-C's bungalow at 2pm demanding Ketan Desai's exclusion from today's senate notification. They went to university main office and started shouting slogans.

In the mean time, police arrived in full strength to stop the protest from turning violent.

While sloganeering was going on, Prof HP Bhalodia of BJ Medical College arrived in his car, all protestors began venting their ire against him.

Protestors alleged that Bhalodia, a close friend of Ketan Desai, was also involved in wide-spread corruption. They forced him from stepping out of his car. He allegedly threatened them and asked them to stop protests against Ketan Desai. Seeing his angry stance, the mob almost beat him up.
