Puducherry: With heavy rains continued to pour in the union territory, the administration has announced distribution of 10 kg free rice to poor families covered under the `red colour ration cards`, chief minister VVaithilingam told reporters here today.

Five fishermen from Vambakeerapalayam who had gone into the sea for fishing faced a critical situation when their fibre boat was tossed up by strong waves.

However, all of them managed to return, official sources said.
