A 31 year old jawan of the State Reserve Police (SRP) posted at the Gujarat high court shot himself on Saturday evening. The jawan identified as Kanubhai Dabhi was a resident of Khakharwad village in Katilal taluka in Kheda.

Sources said that the jawan had finished his duty and had moved in to a temporary shaft on the second floor of the administrative building of the high court. Sources said the incident came to light when the jawans standing outside the building heard gun shots.

A SRP Jawan told DNA, "We heard a gun shot. The sentry immediately rushed to the room. He broke open the door and found Dabhi dead."  Sources said Dabhi had used the service rifle to shoot himself. A source said the rifle used by Dabhi was that of a fellow jawan but the bullets in it were his.

"It appears that Dabhi had placed the barrel of the gun on his neck and then fired a shot. The shot was so powerful that it blew open his skull," said another SRP jawan.

No suicide note was found and the reason for the suicide is not yet known.  Sources said that officials of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) confirmed that the jawan had committed suicide.

Sources close to the development told DNA that Dabhi had moved in from Gondal where he had been posted earlier around three months back. Although the exact reason of the suicide is not known, sources said that he might have committed suicide as he could not get leave.
