AMC, together with CEPT, is intending to incorporate the single fare system into Ahmedabad's transportation modes, making life simpler for residents who make use of public transport system.

"Currently, commuters change their travel route at Anjali and other strategic BRTS locations to reach the new and old cities. For this they pay only once at the starting point of their journey and while changing BRTS route at a station, they don't pay the second time. AMC and CEPT are intending to further stretch this one-time pay fare system into feeders and AMTS as well, so that an individual does not have to pay every time the route is changed," Prof Shivanand Swamy, teaching faculty and associate director of Planning and Public Policy, CEPT University, said.

CEPT also organised a lecture on Tuesday evening by Mohinder Singh, who is the director, research and planning and dean of the LTA academy, Singapore. Singh stressed on various policies and planning that the land transfer authority of Singapore had taken in order to make transportation easier and lessen vehicular congestion.

"During the early years of town planning, plans, strategies and implementation for putting up transportation services were also done simultaneously, to ensure smooth flow of transportation to people living in a particular town.

More so, they have two operators who work together on a fare system, and if they intend to increase the fares, then they have to propose it to the Public Transport Council (PTC). PTC consists of everyone other than government members and therefore they are in the right position to decide on the fares for the benefit of the people", Singh said.

More so, AMC is intending to adopt single card system for AMTS, BRTS and Feeder in Ahmedabad, wherein in our system for instance if you have travelled 10kms by AMTS and you have paid Rs15, then if oyu are stopping at two places you will be charged.

Then when you come to BRTS and Feeder it will be single charge, but you don't have to go to a ticket counter, your redernet card will do this job," concluded municipal commissioner, IP Gautam, also present for the seminar.
