Seven-day remand for key 26/7 accused

Dr Anwar Gani Baghban, a medico and key conspirator in Ahmedabad's 26/7 blasts as well as for planting of bombs in Surat, was produced before metropolitan magistrate, GM Patel on Tuesday. The court sent to Baghban to seven day police remand till July 21.

Sources said that Baghban, a key conspirator of Ahmedabad blasts and Surat planting of bombs, is academically only next to Mohammed Mansoor Peerbhoy, a software professional who earned Rs19 lakh per annum. Baghban is a medico who provided logistics support to the terrorists.

Sources said that Baghban, a resident of Devlali village under Ahmednagar district of Maharasthra was pursuing his master in surgeon (MS) degree from Krishna Institute of Medical Science, Hyderabad after completing his MBBS, when he came in contact with jehadi elements including Riyaz Bhatkal at prayer meeting in Hyderabad.

According to police sources, brain-washed by the subversive jehadi elements, Baghban rented a flat at Ashoka Mesuer area, predominately inhabited by rich Muslim businessmen.

There Baghban organised several secret meetings of the conspirators for the several bomb blasts including Riyaz Bhatkal and Iqbal Bhatkal, who were also present at the party Baghban threw on 26/7 in Pune.

Sources further said that material which was supplied from Karnataka was kept at Baghban's flat in Pune from where it was delivered to Ahmedabad and Surat, respectively. He was nabbed by the Mumbai crime branch in May and was brought by the Ahmedabad police on transit remand for the second time.
